Pacem in Terris 2014
After a successful twenty year history, the International Music Competition PACEM IN TERRIS is taking place again in Bayreuth in 2014.
Georg Christoph Sandmann has taken over the directorship and the artistic administration. With a wealth of experience as Music Director in several theatres, Sandmann has drawn up a modified concept for the competition with a fresh focus. Following a long tradition, young musicians on different instruments will compete against each other.
Concept
The first competition under the new directorship is devoted to the violin and the cello. A new element is the chamber music round, during which the participants can distinguish themselves, not only with high levels of musical and technical ability, but also with the exceptional quality of chamber music playing. The creative union of the participants’ artistic imagination and their ability to work openly with the other musicians to achieve a united artistic goal should give the competition a unique and innovative flavour.
For the first time a contemporary composer has been invited to take on the role of Composer in Residence. The Composer in Residence will not only sit on the jury, but their compositions with form part of one of the competition rounds.
The cellist Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt will be both the Artistic Director and the President of the jury in 2014. He has brought together a world class jury and is responsible for the programming.
